A successful photographic record of Peel's retail quarter took place in summer 2011, and the positive response to the project led to the archive photography project taking in place in Port Erin in 2012. As with the Peel 2011 project, Culture Vannin provided funding for the project, this time matching the grant to Port Erin Commissioners' contribution.
The project coodinators collected brief information about businesses as well as photographing them. They took particular interest in numbers and roles of workers and where they lived in relation to the town boundary. All business exteriors were photographed and where permission was granted, interiors of premises were also photographed.
The data and images from this project can already be found on www.porterin2012.com, but will also be archived in the Manx Museum and made available to the public.
