Osteological research relating to a skeleton from Rushen Abbey

Recipient: Marie Weale

Marie Weale received a grant to help funding the radiocarbon dating and isotope analysis of a human skeleton from Rushen Abbey known as Skeleton C.
The research examined whether the remains could be those of King Olaf II who ruled the Kingdom of Man and the Isles between 1226-1237AD.
Marie's MSc has now been submitted and she was able to present the research at the British Association of Biological Anthropology and Osteoarchaeology (BABAO) in September 2017.
The results of the analysis will be shared in due course.

Marie was also successful in receiving the Marshall Cubbon Student Bursary from the IOMNHAS to assist with the analysis.
